Ian is the co-founder of dance theater company, De Novo Dance. As a performer, he has acted in film, theater, and television, and has collaborated internationally in Mexico, Greece, Ukraine, and the Netherlands. He has performed at The Kitchen, Public Theater, PS 122, Abrons, La MaMa, Abingdon, and HERE among others. Favorites include: shut.eye (De Novo), houseguest (De Novo), Nanjing Race (Off Broadway), Dinner Party (Target Margin), ArtCamp SexyTime Football (Blessed Unrest), Evil ("Ondskan") (U.S. premiere), Blind Sight (La MaMa), and Joy Dietrich's award-winning film, Tie A Yellow Ribbon.

Ian has taught numerous butoh and devised theater workshops for theater, dance, and educational institutions, as well as for non-performance populations. His work has been recognized by NYSCA and the Queens Council on the Arts, in the form of multiple grants and residencies, many for working with senior populations. He is indebted to butoh teachers Diego Pinon, Natsu Nakajima, and Yoshito Ohno, among others. Ian is a member of SAG-AFTRA and AEA.
